NHRA Drag Racing is even more epic in super slow motion

Yea, we have posted some other slow motion NHRA videos before, but this new promotional video from the Auto Club finals in November has us mesmerized.  Sure we have all seen those massive Top Fuel tires crinkle up into a pretzel at the start line, but have you ever seen it in super super slow motion with these high speed cameras?

Pretty amazing footage, and some would argue that Nitro drag racers are the last American heroes.  Keep in mind that in an NHRA Funny Car, the 10,000+ HP supercharged nitro motor is sitting just 18″ in front of the driver, and those engines explode about 20% of the time that they race – and a driver will race a dozen times or so in a weekend.  You do the math.  We salute you, nitro drag racers.

This is how much nitro fuel is dumped into ONE cylinder during a pass:

The 2015 Mustang GT may feature a factory forged engine that will handle 1,000+ HP

The 2003 / 2004 SVT Cobra revolutionized the muscle car wars, because they came from the factory with a forged bottom end – capable of insane horsepower numbers while remaining reliable.  John Coletti, – the chief engineer of SVT at the time – knew that he was on his way out at Ford, and as his last hoorah he gifted the Ford faithful with a car that had amazing potential.  Even today, the cult following behind the 03/04 Cobra is substantial, and even higher mileage ‘Terminators’ for sale are still commanding a $20k price tag.  Seeing 600-750 RWHP out of a stock-bottom-end 03/04 Cobra isn’t uncommon, making the car a must have for speed freaks and horsepower junkies.

2003 SVT ‘Terminator’ Cobra

All that to say that latest speculations is pointing to the fact that new 5.0 Coyote Mustang GT engine may take some notes from the 03/04 Cobra playbook, and offer us a bulletproof bottom capable of over 1,000 HP.  This is significant in so many ways, but most notably it points to the idea that Ford is certainly planning forced induction from the factory, whether Turbo or Supercharger is still yet to be determined.

Tasca Parts, seller of Ford OEM parts, has been quoted on their Facebook page:

“Yep, appears to be a factory reinforced block for ’15.”

Additionally: “I also looked up rods and pistons and it’s getting a brand new part number for the pistons but the rods listed are the Boss rods” and “Crank is a new part number as well, ’15 block $999.00, ’15 crank $345.00.”

Tasca Parts: Yep, appears to be a factory reinforced block for ’15. And all Lee Ament notices is the software they’re using for the catalog these days.

Tasca Parts: Those prices are very much subject to change and anyone trying to swap this stuff into an earlier car will be breaking new ground. No clue what might be different.

Official: 2016 SVT Mustang will be called the ‘GT350’

0

This is well known secret, but we have it on the official level that the next 2016 SVT Mustang, recently caught testing at Nurburgring, will be called the ‘GT350’ – and will keep the Shelby spirit alive.

Quoted from 6G:

“We’ve known for quite some time that the high-performance SVT model for the new 2015 Mustang S550 generation would be called the GT350.  Heck, we’ve even seen it appear in Ford’s online promo order system.

But now we get a look at the actual GT350 badging which will appear on the cars.  The GT350 badge appears on this info sheet along with other badges you’ll see on other models, including the 5.0 badge which will appear on the GT model.  Both the GT350 and 5.0 badge are designated with a “16098″ code, which is typically Ford’s code for fender emblems.  Another thing to note is that the GT350 badge is written in the “Shelby” style font.

So there you have it — we now have visual confirmation of the GT350 nameplate, as well as its future placement on the fenders.  Thanks to the tipsters who sent this in.”

Remember the guy who was caught on video crashing his Bugatti Veyron? He just pled guilty to Insurance Fraud…

Remember the guy who was caught on video crashing his Bugatti Veyron?  He just pled guilty to fraud and is looking at 20 years of hard time.

Andy House, the owner of the Bugatti Veyron who crashed his car into a Texas lake a few years back, has recently pled guilty to wire mail fraud in federal court, and now he’s facing up to 20 years in prison for what is basically insurance fraud.

House acquired the Veyron in 2009 for $1 million, and then had it insured for $2.2 million. On November 11 of that same year, he drove the Bugatti into Gulf Bay outside of La Marque, Texas, to avoid a “low flying pelican.” However the crash was caught on video.

House later claimed that he dropped his phone, causing him to lose control, but according to the evidence, House intentionally ran the Veyron into the water and left the motor running, resulting in the Veyron being totaled by the Philadelphia Insurance company.

Philadelphia Insurance later sued Mr. House directly for fraud, and the lawsuit also claimed he attempted to bribe someone to steal the car and torch it to collect the insurance money.

The guilty plea by House has him facing up to 20 years in federal prison, although he has not been sentenced yet.

Is $1.2 million worth 20 years in prison?  You decide…

Lamborghini Huracan vs. Su-27 Flanker Jet (Video)

The new Lamborghini Huracan is an amazing car, recently shown to run from 0-60MPH in a mere 2.5 seconds.

In this video it is show taking on a Russian Su-27 Flanker fighter jet.  We were hoping the little Huracan could make a run on the Su-27, and it actually pulled rather impressively up until about 150mph, but then the 16,000 lbs of thrust of the Su-27 started to overpower the Italian supercar.

Regardless, it is an entertaining video shot from a decent vantage point.  I like the part where the jet decides to rub it in by flying vertically just to say, “look, no horizontal displacement and I’m still winning.”

Watch this V8 Supercars Race turn into an amazing drift battle, in the rain

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbbrX2Zbrag

Gentlemen, we have reached the pinnacle of art & racing, encompassed in the video above.  It’s hard to tell if they are showing off for the crowd, or if they are legitimately struggling for traction in the wet.

We are leaning towards the former, considering these are Australia’s version of NASCAR – high powered, rear wheel drive V8’s with little or no electronics or driving aids.  In other words, racing in it’s purest form.  This video displays tremendous driving ability.

In fact, you can make a very strong point that Australian V8 Supercars is the best series at the moment in regards to competition and excitement, although this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup season isn’t too far behind.

We hope you enjoy this Australian V8 race drifting video as much as we did.

Outerlimits offshore powerboat goes airborne at over 150 MPH, drivers seriously injured

Ok, so this beast doesn’t have 4 wheels, but it does have over 2,000 HP – so it’s cool in our book.  Most importantly, though – both drivers have survived, but are in critical condition.  We hope they make a full recovery.  These offshore powerboats are capable of going well over 200 MPH on the water.  We don’t think they quite hit the 200 mark in this video, but it appears they are clipping along at over 150 MPH.  Once air gets underneath the hull, the boat transforms into an airplane, and the occupants become pilots.

This is pretty spectacular footage, we are glad both drivers lived:

“Two racers suffered serious injuries during a boat race in the Lake of the Ozarks on Saturday.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Joel Begin of Valley Field, Quebec and Michael Fiore of Bristol, R.I. lost control of their 42 foot outer limits catamaran during the Lake of the Ozark Shootout. The report cites wind interference as the cause of the accident.

The boat launched into the air and flipped twice before entering the water bow first and coming to a rest. Both men were thrown from the boat, according to the report.

Begin was taken to an area hospital, while Fiore had to be airlifted to a hospital in Columbia, Mo.

A nearby viewer of the race caught the accident on video and posted it on YouTube.

The Lake of the Ozark Shootout is the largest unsanctioned boat race in the United States, according to its website.”

Angry Man Throws an Apple at a Lamborghini Aventador

0

Nothing spurns jealousy like an exotic car.  Here is the description from YouTube in regards to this incident:

“The latest incident to take place in Knightsbridge has a local resident throwing an apple at a Lamborghini Aventador on the street outside.

The car in question was sitting at the road side, idling, at 22.48pm on a Saturday night when the resident from above clearly objected to the noise caused by cars in general and took it upon himself to resolve the situation by throwing objects at the car. The first missed but then the cameraman of this footage had seen it happen so pointed the camera up in advance of the second ‘shot’ which as we can see hits the side of the car much to the confusion of the driver and others nearby.

It is well documented that the residents of the local area are becoming increasingly angered by the noise of vehicles on the streets outside, which the media would have you believe is due to the arrival of cars from the Middle-East in this period following the end of Ramadan. However the reality is that generally it is caused by British registered cars (not supercars) trying to play up and impress and choosing this to be where they do it. I certainly do not condone the antisocial behaviour, but nor do I feel this is the correct response to such an issue.”

2015 Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 Tested. 0-60 in 2.5 seconds

2015-lamborghini-huracan-lp610-4-photo-620023-s-986x603

Are you kidding?  These times are absolutely incredible:

Here are the C/D Test Results:
Zero to 60 mph: 2.5 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 5.7 sec
Zero to 150 mph: 13.3 sec
Street start, 5-60 mph: 3.2 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 1.9 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 2.0 sec
Top speed (redline ltd, mfr’s claim): 202 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 144 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.01 g

Road and Track recently got their hands on the new Huracan.  Needless to say, the performance numbers have left everyone speechless.  Never before have we seen so many fast cars being introduced so rapidly.  We just got done reporting how the C7 Z06 with 650HP will come in at only $78,000 – now this new Huracan may steal the Z’s thunder.  We can’t even imagine what a Underground Racing Twin Turbo kit will do to these numbers.

You can head over to Car & Driver for the full review
