That is the official word from GM.  The base C7 Z06 will cost only $78,000.

A well-optioned C7 Z06 will come in at closer to $90,000.  Still, this is quite the bargain – as the Z06 has always offered amazing bang-for-the-buck performance, and it looks like GM is continuing that tradition for the 2015 model.

Red Bull Racing’s RB8 Tearing it Up in Infrared

This is a pretty awesome video showing off the heat signatures of a Red Bull F1 car.  Shot using a FLIR Camera.

“FLIR, an innovation partner with Infiniti Red Bull Racing, had the opportunity to capture some great footage at GAMMA Racing Day 2014. Using a FLIR x6580sc infrared camera, we were able to capture in high speed, the Infiniti Red Bull car’s tires heating up as the driver burned rubber. Other thermal cameras used were the FLIR T650sc and the FLIR B660.”

2015 Corvette will get 29 mpg highway, GM says

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

An 8-speed automatic transmission that will make it’s debut in the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette will boost fuel economy by 3.5 percent over the six-speed automatic transmission it replaces, and it gives the GM sports car an EPA highway rating of 29 mpg – the Corvette’s highest rating ever.

Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter also mentioned that they could have squeezed 30 MPG out of the Stingray by slightly bumping up the tire pressure, but it threw off the handling of the car. “We’ll be back next year and we’ll get to the 30,” he said Tuesday at a media event at GM’s proving grounds west of Detroit.

The 2015 Corvette, equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission (the 8L90) will be EPA rated at 16 city/29 highway mpg, 20 mpg combined.

The 2014 model, equipped with the outgoing 6-speed automatic transmission carried an EPA rating of 16 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined, respectively.

Not that it matters to us, but we wonder what kind of MPG the new Z06 will get once it debuts. Historically, the Z06 variant has always gotten comparable MPG in relation to the base model.

2013 Turbo Boss 302 driver gets caught Street Racing at 140mph, gets pulled over (Video)

This guy needs to go purchase a lottery ticket, because he just ran into one of the coolest Cops on the planet. The driver in the video (unidentified) is street racing a 2013 Turbo Boss 302 that puts down over 900rwhp.

In the video, you can see that he gets caught in the act at over 140MPH. The audio recording from the Officer to the driver is nothing short of jaw-dropping.

Stay safe out there.

Motor Trend pits the Hellcat Challenger against the ZL1 Camaro

“It’s going to be a bloodbath…”

Our friends at Motor Trend have recently put together a prize fight.  The Camaro ZL1 vs. the Challenger Hellcat.

When you take a 707 HP car and make it perform against a measly 580 HP Camaro, the results are to be expected, but this comparison still exemplifies two of the baddest American muscle cars ever built, so it has our attention.

Head over to Motor Trend for the full article.   This dogfight is one worth watching, as both cars are capable of rotating the earth by applying pressure to the gas pedal.

This is an interesting excerpt:

“While the Camaro behaves like a sports car, the Challenger pretends to be nothing else than a straight-line dragster, and when you toss a corner its way it can be a handful. As associate editor Scott Evans put it, the Hellcat handles “just like a Challenger. Understeer into the corner, oversteer out.” The quickest way around the figure eight ultimately was the old tried and true racing mantra of “slow in, fast out” as you lap the boat-like car. The result is still pretty impressive, even if it doesn’t feel it, with a 24.7-second figure-eight time with a 0.85 average g, and a 0.94 lateral g average skidpad performance. The Hellcat may not inspire confidence in the corners, but it’ll do the most glorious drifts you can possibly imagine as it shreds through its rear tires.”

LSX Willys vs Z06 Corvette

Does the though of running over 180+ MPH in a Willys Jeep scare you?  No Doors, No Seat Belts, No Windshield – just, crazy.

“NO DOORS, NO SEAT BELTS, NO WINDSHIELD + 180MPH…. Someone’s got some balls! This is what happens when you have a close ass race and no one wants to lift! The LSx Willys pairs up against a Z06 and a damn good race! A few other races with a C7 Supercharged Corvette and an FD Mazda RX7 featured as well!”

Official: 2015 Corvette Z06 will weigh 3,524 lbs

C7 ZO6 Torch Red

The Official 2015 Corvette Ordering Guide has been released, and it shows the new Z06 weighing it at a surprisingly heavy 3,524 lbs.  We have no doubt this car will be an earth rotator, considering it’s 650 HP, Supercharged LT4 engine – but the extra weight does raise some eyebrows.  This number is 110 lbs over the C6 ZR1 with similar horsepower.

Official: Tesla announces ‘Infinite Mile Warranty’

0

Well, Tesla just sweetened the deal quite a bit.

Today, the Electric Car pioneer company announced that with every vehicle purchased, Tesla will back that purchase up with an 8 year/Infinite Mile warranty.

These cars are becoming more desirable to us every day, especially considering the performance of the Model S

From Elon Musk himself:

“The Tesla Model S drive unit warranty has been increased to match that of the battery pack. That means the 85 kWh Model S, our most popular model by far, now has an 8 year, infinite mile warranty on both the battery pack and drive unit. There is also no limit on the number of owners during the warranty period.

Moreover, the warranty extension will apply retroactively to all Model S vehicles ever produced. In hindsight, this should have been our policy from the beginning of the Model S program. If we truly believe that electric motors are fundamentally more reliable than gasoline engines, with far fewer moving parts and no oily residue or combustion byproducts to gum up the works, then our warranty policy should reflect that.

To investors in Tesla, I must acknowledge that this will have a moderately negative effect on Tesla earnings in the short term, as our warranty reserves will necessarily have to increase above current levels. This is amplified by the fact that we are doing so retroactively, not just for new customers. However, by doing the right thing for Tesla vehicle owners at this early stage of our company, I am confident that it will work out well in the long term.

– Elon”

Furthermore, from Tech Crunch:

“Originally, the Model S carried a four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty that could be extended to 8 years and 100,000 miles for an additional $4,000 fee. Musk says in his blog post detailing the move that “[i]n hindsight, this should have been [Tesla’s] policy from the beginning of the Model S program,” as the company’s warranty should reflect its belief in the improved reliability of its electric engines vs. their gasoline-powered equivalents.

Musk also notes to investors in his company that this will have a (moderate) negative effect on its earnings in the short-term, but says the move is designed to benefit the company long-term, owing to how it reflects Tesla putting its customers first.

The warranty extends to new owners upon resale of the Tesla S, too, so secondary markets also benefit. This is a huge goodwill gesture for Elon to make for its customers, and yet another shot across the bow of traditional fuel-injected gas engines. The fact that it applies retroactively makes it much more than a gesture, too, as they likely could’ve easily applied it going forward and still received praise from industry observers.”

McLaren P1 GTR Revealed With 1,000 HP

If you recently decided to not pick up a lottery ticket, you may want to think again.

Behold, the 1,000 HP McLaren P1 GTR.

Revealed at Pebble Beach this week, the P1 GTR production will be limited to 375 models, and will cost around $3.3 Million (USD).  For that price, customers will get to experience a training program to make sure that they are capable enough to drive the car.  The training program also offers consultations from the McLaren driver fitness team and access to McLaren’s race simulator.

Sounds like a bargain to us.

Watch these dragsters explode, in super-slow motion

NHRA Mello-Yello Drag Racing.  Pure Nitro methane awesomeness.  When something goes wrong with these dragsters, it goes wrong in a big way.  A Top Fuel car, for example, will run from a stop all the way up to 320+ MPH in around 4 seconds.  What’s even crazier, is that the Funny Car will run close to that same speed – but the 12,000+ HP Nitro engine is placed directly in front of the driver.

The superchargers require 300+ HP just to TURN over, and when they blow up – they require Kevlar straps to keep them attached to the engine so they don’t blast into orbit.

Drag Racing may be one of the last form of pure motorsport in the sense that these drivers require a wheelbarrow just to walk around due to the size of their balls.  These guys risk life and limb arguably more than any other racing driver, our hats off to them.

Enjoy ESPN’s video above, a super-high-speed compilation of when these nasty engines detonate.
