0

We’ve been waiting for this one. Jay Leno finally gives us his review of the 2015 Corvette Z06. The LT4 powered Z is a monster, and we are curious as to what Jay has to say about after taking it for a spin.

Regardless if your loyalty lies with Ford, Mercedes, Chrysler, etc – you are just not a car guy if you can’t appreciate what GM has done with the new Z06. We can’t wait to get our hands one. Enjoy the review.

Tire tech has come a long way: 6.12 @244mph on a DOT approved drag radial

Obviously this 2000 Camaro is built and dialed in, but there is no denying how impressive these DOT-legal drag radials are. Not only can they handle the brutal acceleration, but they can also run up to 240+ MPH with consistency and reliability.

These days, there are more companies making replicas of the original Shelby Cobra, and it is almost impossible to find the real deal. Thankfully, for those with $180,000 to burn – Shelby American Inc. is now celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original with this special edition.

The 50th Anniversary Shelby Cobra 427 is built on the tiny British roadster, only this one comes as a rolling chassis without a powertrain. And for the privilege of owning one, you’ll have to fork out $120k – and that’s just for fiberglass version. The aluminum-body model will set you back $180k.

For all that cash, you get a plethora of special badges placed all over the handmade bodywork (in either polished finish or white-striped-blue livery), laid on a steel frame with four-wheel independent suspension, coil-over shocks, 11-inch brakes with dual piston calipers at all four corners, along with 15-inch wheels.

Only 50 examples of this anniversary edition Cobra will be offered, chassis numbers CSX4550-4599.

We’ll take two in black, please.

Evo gets to drive the Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro on track (Video)

0

Evo’s Richard Meaden recently got the once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity to drive Audi’s 2014 Le Mans race winning R18 e-tron quattro on track. That’s right, the actual, covered in bugs, race-proven, original, 2014 LeMans-winning R18.

This car is from a different planet, and we can’t imagine what is must be like to have a go in this car. Fortunately Richard Meaden conveys quite well how incredible the experience was. He also gives us a new appreciation for professional, LeMans-winning race car drivers, and how skilled they are compared to other race car drivers. Enjoy.

Head to Head: 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 vs 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28!

The Z28 is an amazing car, but the GT3 is the Holy grail here. The 600lb. weight difference is too much to overcome for the heavier Z/28. Center of gravity is higher. The Z/28 is more impressive than the GT3 simply because the Z/28 does things that other much more expensive cars cannot do. The $70,000 price difference also matters in the real world. GM did a fantastic job with the Z/28. I personally cannot wait for the GT350 vs. Z/28 Head-to-Head MT video, that is going to be epic in our book. Hopefully Dodge can get off their ass and build a Z/28 type Challenger.

As car guys, this is a great time to be alive. And by the way, I would mortgage my house to buy a GT3, one of my favorite cars ever – although we would buy a GT3 RS 4.0!

The 640-HP 2016 Cadillac CTS-V sounds amazing (fresh videos)

Say hello to the 2016 CTS-V sedan, and it exemplifies the very best of Cadillac. Even by Cadillac’s own admission, they are quoted as saying that “nobody thought it was possible that we could push [the CTS-V] this far.”

What’s really interesting is what lies beneath the hood: GM’s supercharged, 6.2-liter LT4 V8, squeezing out a (de-tuned) 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. That is slightly less than the C7 Z06, but the result is the most powerful Cadillac ever produced.

With the advanced launch control and the 8-speed automatic transmission (no more manual transmission), Cadillac claims the 4,100 lb 2016 CTS-V will sprint to 60 MPH in just 3.6 seconds, and a top speed of over 200 miles per hour.

The new V also features the next-gen Magnetic Ride Control active damping system (with a 40-percent increase in responsiveness)and a 25-percent increase in structural stiffness, which will improve overall handling and steering. And let’s not forget the Brembo brake package that comes standard, as well as the 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in super sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that will pull 1g in lateral acceleration.

Additionally, Cadillac will also offer GM’s Performance Data Recorder in the CTS-V. It records high-definition video with GPS data overlays that is sharable via social media. Cadillac will offer Siri Eyes Free, OnStar with 4G LTE, CUE infotainment with navigation and Bose audio.

The CTS-V will hit the streets late summer, 2016 – following the debut of the smaller ATS-V. The CTS-V will debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in just a few weeks.

Tesla Model S P85D takes on a Lamborghini Aventador, heads up

0

Not a bad showing for the Tesla – it’s impressive to 60 or so and quickly falls off. Seems logical that Tesla would shoot for a pretty stunning 0-60 number for marketing purposes. 0-100 or other acceleration benchmarks would be a secondary concern at most, in that case.

Also, 4000 and 5000 pounds for sports cars? Can’t argue with measured performance, but good lord. Regardless, the P85D is an impressive machine.

Is the 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 the Ultimate Drivers 911?

This 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 is probably the best value for money at Porsche right now. With a redline of 9,000+ RPM’s – the sound is downright intoxicating, and 475 HP out of a NA, flat-6 is quite the engineering feat.

So, how does this new Porsche compare to the C7 Z06? We are glad you asked:

Just about the only thing similar is that they’re sports cars and rear wheel drive. I would hardly call the Z06 the “most track capable Corvette ever”, regardless of what is was “designed” to do. Don’t buy into the GM propaganda. A little 1.7L supercharger that spins at 20k RPM’s isn’t something you’ll find on a “track capable” anything. Even excluding Randy Pobst’s Z06 throwing an overheat warning after 4 laps, the heat soak will become prominent in even a 20 minute track session and having to haul around 3524 lbs just means the car has to work even more.

Don’t get me wrong, the car can pull some stupid fast times for a couple of laps. It has already ran ~1:29.5 on Road Atlanta. Mind you, Forged Performance’s track prepped 800hp package GT-R with aero on street tires actually ran 0.10 seconds slower than the Z06 w/ Z07 package. The car is stupid fast, but if you consider a really fast hot lap being “track capable”, then so be it.

Any car that heat soaks and overheats in 4 laps is not “track capable” in my book. GT3’s are known for being reliable, consistent cars that are built to endure. They’ll run all day without skipping a beat, something the C7 Z06 cannot accomplish. The GT3 is also 400 lbs lighter, less wear on consumables.

Overall, the GT3 has a more focused, track-oriented design, the Z06 has to appeal to everyone.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Glows Under Pressure (Red Hot Content Inside)

We never realized we wanted an F12 Berlinetta until now. We are fortunate to live in a world where such cars are created. This must surely be the golden age of cars.

Stock Viper T/A vs. Lamborghini Huracan, Ferrari 458 Italia, 2015 Mustang GT, and C6 Z06 (HIGH SPEED VIDEO)

0

The Viper was obsolete a few weeks ago, and now the Mopar Snake is a superstar again – thanks to a recent video showing it walk a brand new C7 Z06 on the freeway. The bottom line is, the new Viper continues to impress. We love that they are taking a steamy dump on all the cars coming out that everyone thought would be unbeatable.

As for it beating the C7Z, even though the new Z06 weights 35xx lbs or so, we wouldn’t say its a disappointing car. GM just needs to get the bugs worked out. The early edition C6 Z06 did not have awesome lap times until the second half of it’s production run – but we digress.

Back to the video above. The owner of the Viper said he did not lift in any of the races when shifting his Viper. Aw, the benefits of a direct mounted shifter and no fear.

Crap journalism aside, enjoy the video. -HPK
