This 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 is probably the best value for money at Porsche right now. With a redline of 9,000+ RPM’s – the sound is downright intoxicating, and 475 HP out of a NA, flat-6 is quite the engineering feat.
So, how does this new Porsche compare to the C7 Z06? We are glad you asked:
Just about the only thing similar is that they’re sports cars and rear wheel drive. I would hardly call the Z06 the “most track capable Corvette ever”, regardless of what is was “designed” to do. Don’t buy into the GM propaganda. A little 1.7L supercharger that spins at 20k RPM’s isn’t something you’ll find on a “track capable” anything. Even excluding Randy Pobst’s Z06 throwing an overheat warning after 4 laps, the heat soak will become prominent in even a 20 minute track session and having to haul around 3524 lbs just means the car has to work even more.
Don’t get me wrong, the car can pull some stupid fast times for a couple of laps. It has already ran ~1:29.5 on Road Atlanta. Mind you, Forged Performance’s track prepped 800hp package GT-R with aero on street tires actually ran 0.10 seconds slower than the Z06 w/ Z07 package. The car is stupid fast, but if you consider a really fast hot lap being “track capable”, then so be it.
Any car that heat soaks and overheats in 4 laps is not “track capable” in my book. GT3’s are known for being reliable, consistent cars that are built to endure. They’ll run all day without skipping a beat, something the C7 Z06 cannot accomplish. The GT3 is also 400 lbs lighter, less wear on consumables.
Overall, the GT3 has a more focused, track-oriented design, the Z06 has to appeal to everyone.
