This guy built his own Ferrari 250 TR

0

Peter Giacobbi couldn’t afford a real Ferrari 250 TR, did what he wanted to do, and saved millions of dollars in the process. This man builds his own Ferrari 250 TR, and to the casual eye it is indistinguishable from the real thing, and the Colombo V12 engine sounds amazing.

Heat Soak?  Horsepower-limiting ECU?  Undersized roots blower?

Who’s laughing now?

According to fresh reports, the 2015 Corvette Z06 has run a lap time of 6:59.13 at Nurburgring, and the HD on-board video will be released “soon”.

What do we know about this run? It was done in a production 2015 C7 Z06, and the car was equipped with the Z07 aerodynamics package, along with GM’s new 8L90 eight-speed transmission.  That is all the information we have at this point, but we do expect more (official) information to be released in coming weeks.

As you know, the C7 Z06 has been heavily criticized as of late, with rumors circulating that the car suffers from heat stroke, or a poorly programmed factory ECU, etc.  There are also numerous videos appearing on the internet of the new Z getting beat by the likes of the SRT Viper – the C7 Z06’s primary competitor.

This recent news, however, will redeem this amazing machine in the eyes of enthusiasts, and will solidify this car as an amazing machine that displays hypercar performance.

This lap time places the new 2015 Corvette Z06 in a new category altogether, and could be compared (statistically) to the Porsche 918, LaFerrari and McLaren P1 – all for a fraction of the price.  For reference, the Porsche 918 Spyder has previously recorded a 6:57 lap time, so this new Z06 is certainly in elite and exclusive company.

Horrific crash at the finish of the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona (NASCAR Sprint Cup)

0

Austin Dillon is OK this morning after surviving a horrifying crash at the finish of the Coke Zero 400.

As Dale Jr cross the line for the win, the pack behind him gets bunched, causing the #3 of Austin Dillon to take flight and fly off into the catch fence.

Fortunately the safety fence did it’s job and kept the spectators safe, although there were reports of three spectators suffering minor injuries.

The Coke Zero 400 at Daytona, which was delayed because of rain, did not finish until about 3 AM local time. A faithful 50,000+ spectators watched the race from the grandstands, despite the 12AM start time. Unfortunately Dale Earnhardt Jr’s victory was overshadowed by such a violent wreck at the finish. We are just grateful nobody was seriously injured.

Dodge’s new Hellcat and Viper Commercial: Predators

0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCxehjcYwlc

Mopar is doing everything right these days. While Ford is pushing their ‘EcoBoost V6’ on us, Mopar is headed the opposite direction and stuffing their 707-HP Hellcat motor in everything they can fit it in. The Charger and Challenger carry the Hellcat motor with pride, and soon the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be the recipient of the already famous Hellcat motor.

And if we weren’t huge fans already of what Chrysler is doing, then they go and release a commercial like this. We can’t get enough of it, and we are certain that fans of Horsepower Kings will appreciate this video as well. Enjoy.

Ferrari has improved the near-perfect 458 Italia in the form of the new 488 GTB. A direct replacement for the outgoing 458, the new 488 GTB adds an entirely new character dimension with the addition of the 488ci twin turbo layout. The new engine is smaller than its 458-predecessor, and its displacement of 488 cubic centimeters per cylinder gives the car its title: 488GTB. Powered by a twin-turbo 3.9L, this new Ferrari cranks out 661-HP at 8,000 RPM – and only has a curb weight of 3,020 lbs. Enjoy the video review above.

Watch the Ford Mustang GT350R make a run at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed (Video)

0

This car looks like a handful, and that’s a good thing.

Ford is getting ready to start production on the insanely-hot Mustang GT350 & GT350R, and today we see it being run through the paces at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and it sounds pissed off.

And according to former Stig Driver (Top Gear), this car has “weapons-grade” superpower:

Q. You’ve driven many a car, Ben. How is this compared to what you’ve experienced before?

A. Unique. That was my first run up the hill [in the GT350R] and it was all hands on deck [showing his hands] to get it up there. It is an amazing vehicle, it’s got a fantastic grip, it’s super lightweight, 525 horsepower, but I really didn’t expect what I got. The amount of power surge you get is incredible so I had a lot of fun, had a big grin. I suddenly found myself on the grass, gathered it up and off we went so I’m learning very quickly.

Q. Ford Mustang we think of as an American cruiser and certainly the older ones were not suitable for the British roads and certainly that road (the hillclimb) is very British. Is this GT350R working well?

A. The new standard of Mustang is very much more European in style so I think the things that we were used to, during the rebirth of muscle cars in 2005, it was still quite soft. The new Mustang is completely different and I experienced that in the standard car and I thought, oh I’d be fine in this 350 Shelby, but this is another grade up, it’s weapons grade superpower.

Q. What are the stats of the car?

A. It’s got 525 horsepower, it’s as light as a squirrel. I don’t know what the weight is but it’s tiny. It’s got big wide tires on it. It’s the Michelin Pilot Cup Sports that are providing a lot of grip. It makes a fantastic sound and you can do all kinds of extreme things with it, you can turn the traction control completely off which is what I did and just have loads of fun. If you really want to be a complete hooligan, you can put a line lock on the front brake and just sit there burning out until the tires shred so it’s built for having fun. I was being chased up the hill by Ken Block in his Focus so we had a good time … Don’t forget your earplugs.
