The idea of a Lexus LFA successor has kept its fans talking for years, even before the last one rolled of the line in 2012. But now it’s Toyota that’s keeping the conversation going:

Lexus’ executive vice president Mark Templin recently told reporters that the company has plans to build a successor to the LFA, a plan that apparently has Toyota president Akio Toyoda’s approval, according to Bloomberg

Before a press event for the new Lexus NX crossover, Templin commented, “Akio believes that every generation deserves to have a car like an LFA, so we’re building an LFA for the generation we have today.”

The original LFA, which spouted out 552-horsepower from a high-revving 4.8-liter V10, took over a decade for engineers to design and develop, so we should be cautiously skeptical as to when we may see a new LFA.  Toyota already has a few stokes in the fire with the joint Toyota-BMW sports car partnership and the rollout of the all-new Lexus RC and RC F coupes.

When it does debut, pricing should reflect the original LFA’s MSRP at around $375,000, though figures north of that shouldn’t take anyone off guard. Lexus intended the original LFA to price in the $120,000 ballpark, but as more technology and features were added during development – the price grew, substantially.

The Lexus LF-LC concept, revealed at the 2012 Detroit auto show, has yet to find a production date and remains the crowd favorite as a potential LFA successor. Think it can take-up the reins of the LFA? Templin commented, “I won’t tell you yes, and I won’t tell you no.” Hmm…
